Privacy Policy

Sitka Engineering, based in Grants Pass, Oregon, USA, operates sitkaengineering.com. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you browse our site, ask about a kit, place an order, or communicate with us.

Information we collect

  • Inquiries and build details. Information you submit, such as your name, email address, whether you are an individual builder or a professional shop, kit model, quantity, configuration, delivery country and postal code, and your message. A quote link can carry your selected kit options into the form; you can review and change them before sending.
  • Orders and payments. Contact details, billing and shipping addresses, items and options purchased, payment status, and order or support history. Payment providers collect the payment details needed for the method you choose. Please do not put card numbers, passwords, or sensitive identity documents in our inquiry form or ordinary email.
  • Website activity. Our website services receive technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, page addresses, referral information, and visit times. Analytics can also record navigation and interactions with the site. Cookie choices affect the use of optional cookies, as explained below.

How we use information

We use information to answer questions, prepare quotes, discuss kit configurations, process and fulfill orders, arrange delivery or pickup, provide support, keep transaction records, maintain and improve the website, measure the results of our advertising campaigns, prevent fraud or misuse, and meet legal obligations. We receive information directly from you, through your use of the website, and from providers involved in your payment or delivery.

We do not use customer contact details for marketing email campaigns, provide customer lists to advertisers, or use website activity for remarketing audiences or personalized advertising. Quote requests are used to follow up on your inquiry. You may still receive messages needed to handle a request, order, payment, delivery, or support issue.

Who receives information

Information is handled by Sitka Engineering and providers involved in operating our business:

  • Squarespace hosts the website, provides the store and inquiry forms, and supplies website analytics. Form submissions are handled through Squarespace and delivered to our business email. See Squarespace’s privacy policy.
  • Stripe and PayPal are connected payment providers. The provider for your selected payment method receives transaction, payment, and relevant device information to process the payment and help prevent fraud. See the Stripe and PayPal privacy policies. A wallet or financing option you choose may also have its own terms and privacy notice.
  • Email, delivery, and business support providers receive information needed for their role, such as communicating with you, delivering your kit, or assisting with accounting and legal matters.
  • Website analytics and font services receive information as described in the next section.

We may also disclose relevant information when required by law or reasonably necessary to address fraud, protect people or property, or establish or defend legal claims. We do not sell customer lists or share customer contact details with advertisers for their marketing.

Cookies, analytics, and external services

Cookies and similar browser storage hold small pieces of information in your browser. Necessary cookies support security, cart and checkout functions, and your saved privacy choices. Optional measurement cookies help us understand visits, kit interest, quote inquiries, and the results of our ad campaigns.

The cookie banner offers Accept all and Reject all. Reject all declines optional cookies. You can reopen Cookie Preferences at the bottom of the page to change your choice. Optional Squarespace and Google measurement cookies remain restricted until you accept them. Necessary service requests and some Google measurement without cookies may still occur; rejecting optional cookies does not prevent every request to our service providers. Browser settings can also block or remove cookies; blocking necessary cookies may affect checkout or other features.

We use Squarespace analytics and Google Analytics to understand website traffic and the path from viewing a kit to requesting a quote. Measurement can include pages visited, kit selections, configuration interactions, quote-link clicks, form starts, and successful quote submissions. Our custom measurement events do not include your name, email address, postal code, or the contents of your inquiry.

We run Google Ads campaigns and use campaign and referral information to assess which ads bring visitors and inquiries to Sitka. Google’s services may process device information, cookie identifiers, ad-click identifiers, page information, and conversion events for this purpose. This processing is by Google as a service provider; the information is not confined to Sitka’s own systems. Our website’s Google tag disables ad personalization and Google signals. We do not use this tracking for remarketing or upload customer contact details for enhanced conversions.

Read how Google uses information from sites using its services; Google also offers an Analytics browser opt-out add-on. The site includes Adobe Fonts resources, which can send technical information to Adobe to deliver fonts; see Adobe’s font privacy information.

Some product pages link to videos on YouTube. The Rowdy video opens on YouTube when you follow its link; it does not load a YouTube player automatically on our site. When you visit YouTube, Google/YouTube may receive information about your visit and use cookies under its own settings and privacy policy. External websites, social networks, and payment services have their own privacy practices, including how they may recognize visits across sites. Our policy does not control their independent use of information.

How long information is kept

We do not currently have one fixed retention period for all records. Retention depends on the purpose of the record, ongoing inquiries or orders, support needs, accounting and tax requirements, applicable legal obligations, and the need to resolve disputes. Our providers may apply their own retention periods. You can ask us about your records or request deletion using the contact details below; some information may need to be retained for these reasons.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a copy, correct inaccurate information, or request deletion. Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, obtain a portable copy, or opt out of certain uses. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

Email matt@sitka-engineering.com with the subject “Privacy request” and describe your request. Include enough information to locate the relevant inquiry or order, but do not send sensitive identity documents unless we arrange an appropriate verification method. We may need to verify your identity or an authorized agent’s authority. We will respond as required by applicable law and explain any reason we cannot fulfill a request. If you wish to appeal a decision, reply with “Privacy appeal.” You may also contact your relevant privacy regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising rights protected by applicable law.

Security and international access

The website uses HTTPS to protect information in transit. No website or transmission method can guarantee complete security. Our business is based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Privacy protections can differ between locations.

Children

Our site and products are intended for adult boat buyers and builders, not children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can investigate and address it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the website or our practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version. When applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a change, we will provide it.
