Chris Parker has taken his Sportsman and Creekboat onto big water in central Idaho. Back in the shop, he’s building his sixth 6 ft kit.
Which Sitka kits have you built?
I have purchased the 6 ft, 12 ft, Creekboat, 14, 15 and 17.5 ft Sportsman kits.
What has changed since your first kits?
This was not my first boat build. Some of the first four kits or so I purchased took extra time to prep in order to weld, but the kits were always complete with a checklist for every part delivered.
The last few kits I purchased have had much higher cut quality than the early kits I purchased. Sitka Engineering is typically very quick about getting back to you on questions about the kit.
Where have you taken the boats?
The boats have been used all over the country on rivers and lakes. I think we have had the most fun running big water in central Idaho on the Salmon River with the Sportsman and Creekboat.
I’m currently building my sixth 6 ft kit. Looking forward to building the 20 ft kit.
What matters to you when a kit arrives?
When you order a kit, they are shipped in a way that your parts don’t get damaged. I have ordered maybe 15 kits from Sitka and I can’t remember one order that was incomplete. That is huge when you are trying to keep a build on schedule.
