Kurt Jacaty’s Open Bow Creekboat

For his third build, Kurt Jacaty wanted a boat he could walk through from the cockpit to the bow and run in shallow water. He chose the open bow 1660 Creekboat.

Why did you choose the 1660 Creekboat?

I wanted all around shallow water performance with the convenience of a walk through open bow.

What did you learn on your third build?

This was my third build. Each build challenges me in different ways. I like to start tacking the sides on nose first. Otherwise the nose may not line up. For a clean build, have a friend help line up everything and tack it together, then burn everything in.

How has it been on the water?

I’m still in the process of building. I’ve had it out on the water a few times with a temporary 383 small block Chevy and a Berkeley pump. It carries the additional weight of an all steel small block well. Runs shallow. Also fast. Around 70 mph, and I’m still dialing everything in. Lots of power with the small block. All aluminum LS power to come.

What would you tell another builder?

Building these boats takes over double the amount of time you think you’ll have in one. They handle well and are very rewarding when complete. The 1/4 inch bottom is durable for long lasting fun. It’ll take you where your average river boat won’t go.
